Digitization of schengen visa
A new plan to digitize the visa application procedure has been adopted by the ambassadors of the member states of the European Union. To speed up the procedure and decrease processing times for visas among the 27 European countries that make up the Schengen area, the current "Schengen" sticker will be replaced by a digital barcode in this change.
Improved Safety and Digital Barcodes
The new visa will be a 2D barcode that has been cryptographically signed. The replacement of the current stickers is intended to lessen fraud and counterfeiting. A digital Schengen visa will simplify the application process for authorised travellers and contribute to the safety of the Schengen region.
Also, applicants have the option to specify which member state should handle their application. This will streamline the procedure and shorten the time it takes to process visas by communicating the decision regarding approval directly on the platform.
Visa is accessible via the digital platform
Following the upload of their information, digital copies of their travel papers, and payment of the visa cost, the new digital platform will inform applicants of the availability of the visa. This will speed up visa processing and make the visa application procedure simpler. Nonetheless, first-time applicants and travellers with expired biometric data must physically appear before the consulate.
Delays in obtaining visas and a rise in international travel demand
There are now much more outstanding applications from Indian visitors as a result of delays in the processing of Schengen visas. Many tour operators attribute the delay to companies that handle visas. According to other businesses, European embassies underreacted to the rising demand for international travel. This problem is being addressed by the increased digitalization of the visa application process in the EU.
